SSHOC at Events

Humanities and social sciences researchers encounter a number of data protection issues in their work.  An example is scientific events where photos and videos are taken and legal participant consent is required in order to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Surveys and other research activities pose similar problems.

There are a number of data protection issues that humanities' and social sciences' researchers encounter in their work. Examples of these include scientific events where photos and videos are taken, but also surveys and other research activities involving human participants. For many of these activities, researchers have to obtain legal consent from their participants in order to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In June 2020, SSHOC and the COST Action ETHMIGSURVEYDATA launched the beta version of the EMM Survey Registry: a free online tool that will display survey-level metadata for over 800 surveys on ethnic and migrant minorities' (EMMs') integration from over 30 European countries.   

In this information session, you will learn about the CESSDA Vocabulary Service which enables users to discover, browse and download controlled vocabularies in a variety of languages. The service is provided by the Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA).

In this session of the series, you will get acquainted with SKOSMOS, a web-based tool providing services for accessing controlled vocabularies, which are used by indexers describing documents and searchers looking for suitable keywords. Vocabularies are accessed via SPARQL endpoints containing SKOS vocabularies.

As part of the SSHOC activities, CLARIN is organising a series of online events to raise awareness about open-source vocabulary hosting and management platforms.

First session - Wikibase

In this session of the series, you will get acquainted with Wikibase, a powerful, flexible, and customizable knowledge base software that drives Wikidata. 

EOSChub, FREYA and SSHOC are joining forces in this online event on 16-19 November.
