SSHOC at Events

In this first of a series of SSHOC webinars we will discuss the theoretical basis and the technology available for transcribing spoken language. In particular, we will focus on the role of automatic speech recognition – what are the opportunities, what are the pitfalls and to where can it be applied successfully.

Organised by SSHOC, the workshop "Linking Social Survey and Linguistic Infrastructures through EOSC" will be held in Utrecht on the 24th of March 2020, in co-location with the 3rd SSHOC Consortium meeting.

The SSHOC 3rd Consortium Meeting will be hosted by CLARIN-ERIC, on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 March 2020 in its virtual zoom rooms.

CLOSER is hosting a second collaborative conference for the international longitudinal population studies community to share learning, and develop common solutions to key challenges.

Organised by SSHOC and its partner CLARIN-ERIC, the 2020 LR4SSHOC workshop will be held in Marseille (France), as part of the 12th edition of the Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC2020).

This workshop will focus on the goals and aims of realising the SSHOC part of the EOSC, where SSH data, language processing tools, and services are made available, adjusted and accessible for users across SSH domain.

CO-OPERAS and SSHOC are conducting a joint workshop on January 30th 2019, in the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen. The workshop addresses workflows and research practices of the participants in terms of research data management, FAIR principles (CO-OPERAS) and their usage and requirements towards services, tools, and specifically towards the SSH Open Marketplace that SSHOC is building.

This year the Europeana Conference, the main event dedicated to the EU digital platform for cultural heritage and its communities, will take place in Lisbon, Portugal and feature a pre-event workshop entirely dedicated to EOSC. Titled "EOSC's Evolutionary Scenarios - New Perspective for Digital Cultural Heritage", the event will take place on 27 November 2019 in Lisbon, 10:00-13:00 GMT.

Franciska de Jong, Professor at Utrecht University & Executive Director of CLARIN ERIC will present SSHOC, the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud.

Save the date for the DARIAH Annual Event 2020 which will take place November 10-13, 2020 in Zagreb, Croatia. 

The DARIAH Annual Event 2020 will have a conference format combining keynotes, papers, workshops and poster presentations. It is the main annual gathering of the DARIAH community but also open to people outside DARIAH, humanities researchers, representatives of (digital) humanities communities, librarians, GLAM representatives, information scientists, computer scientists etc.

The EOSC Symposium is one of the largest, yearly EOSC events. It is co-organised by the EOSCsecretariat project and the main ICT eInfrastructures initiatives, namely, EOSC-hub, GEANT, OpenAIRE and PRACE in collaboration with the EOSC Governance Board, Executive Board and its Working Groups (Architecture, FAIR, Landscape, Rules of Participation, Sustainability.) The event will see two intense and stimulating days for all stakeholders to contribute to discussion on the implementation of the EOSC.

SSHOC's coordinator CESSDA is holding a widening meeting on 5-6 November in Skopje, North Macedonia.

During the morning panel of the second day, the Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud (SSHOC) project will be presented by Irena Vipavc Brvar, Director of Administration at ADP, The Slovenian Social Science Data Archives of the University of Ljubljana.
